Shasta Lake Service Guidelines
Single-family Residential Service
All single-family residences and duplexes (two units) will be provided with the following enhanced services on your new scheduled collection day:
- Recyclable materials (cart with blue lid)
- Green waste (cart with green lid)
- Household trash (cart with black or grey lid)
Place all carts at curbside the night before your scheduled collection day. Lids must be closed, and the lid opening must face towards the street. Carts should be placed side by side at least 3 feet apart and 3 feet away from parked cars or objects. As a courtesy to your neighbor, promptly remove carts after service.
Single-family residents who qualify for the senior discount must be 65 years of age or older, head of household and qualify for utility rate discounts. Please contact Customer Service for additional information and application.
Maximum Weight Limits
96 gallon carts: 250 lbs.
To avoid exceeding the weight limitation of the cart, or causing possible damage to the cart or collection vehicle, do not place rocks, concrete, bricks or dirt inside carts. Any items placed within the cart must fall out easily when the cart is being serviced. Please do not overfill or tightly pack items into the cart.
If the cart exceeds the weight limitation, the driver will attempt service and will notify the resident of the problem by leaving a Non-Collection Notice attached to the cart. However, if we are unable to empty the cart, the cart will be tagged and marked as “overweight.” It will then be the responsibility of the resident to make the correction and contact Waste Management for service.
Resident Responsibility for Cart
Each resident is responsible for the proper care and security of the trash and recycling carts. Customers will be charged to replace carts that are damaged or destroyed other than through normal usage. Please contact Customer Service for cart replacements.
Do NOT place the following materials in your carts:
- Hazardous waste (products labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, or irritant)
- Automotive batteries
- Hot ashes
- Electronic waste (electronic equipment such as computers, TVs, cell phones, microwave ovens)
- Infectious waste (including used needles)
- Dead animals
If these materials are found in the cart, it will be tagged with a Non-Collection Notice and will not be serviced. It will then be the responsibility of the resident to make the correction and contact WM for service.
Waste Management will be closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If the holiday falls on a weekday, services will be delayed by one day for that week only. Your regular collection schedule will resume the following week. There will not be any interruption in service if the holiday is on Saturday or Sunday.
For example: If the holiday falls on Thursday then Thursday’s collection services will be provided on Friday and Friday’s collection services will be provided on Saturday, and so forth.
Each household is provided with a 64-gallon recycling cart that has a blue lid for recyclable materials. There is no need to sort cans, bottles or paper; they all go in the same cart.

Holiday Tree Recycling
Beginning December 26 and ending January 14, Waste Management will collect holiday trees free of charge. Trees must be cut into 3-foot lengths, stripped of all ornaments, garlands, tinsel, flocking, stands, and placed on the curb near your carts, on your regularly scheduled green waste collection day. Trees not meeting these guidelines, (such as flocked trees) can be picked up as bulky items.
Electronic Waste (E-Waste) is the term used to describe discarded electronic equipment. Television, microwaves, computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, VCR’s, fax machines, electronic games and cell phones fall in this category. These products contain Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) which are made of lead and cannot be disposed of in your trash or recycling carts.
E-Waste is accepted at Anderson Landfill located at 18703 Cambridge Road.
Household hazardous waste (HHW) is any product labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, combustible or irritant. HHW items include paint, batteries, oil, and pesticides. These products, if mishandled, can be dangerous to your health and the environment, and therefore should be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Also, these materials should never be discarded in a sink, storm drain or in your regular trash.
The County of Shasta holds HHW Round-Ups throughout the year. Household hazardous waste can be brought to these events for proper disposal at NO charge.
